CALGARY, AB – Today, the Government of Alberta announced $15.1 million in funding, delivered through Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA), for 7 projects led by Calgary companies across the energy, agriculture, manufacturing, critical minerals, and waste management sectors. Funding is sourced from the province’s Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) fund. If successful, the 7 projects are estimated to reduce 111,600 tonnes of emissions by 2030, generate 463 person-years of employment, and contribute $74 million to Alberta’s GDP.
Projects include:
Athabasca Asphalt Company
ERA Funding: $2,260,000 | Project Total Value: $4,500,000
Construct a first-of-its-kind facility that produces high-performance asphalt binder from Alberta bitumen through an innovative low-emission process that eliminates process water use and simplifies conventional asphalt production.
Chemshift Technologies Inc.
ERA Funding: $360,000 | Project Total Value: $1,400,000
Design, build, and test a pilot-scale lithium refining system that converts low-purity crude lithium carbonate into an ultra-high-purity, battery-grade material.
Cvictus Inc.
ERA Funding: $750,000 | Project Total Value: $2,700,000
Develop and pilot-test a non-photosynthetic single-cell protein as a low-carbon, high-quality feed alternative for poultry, swine, and aquaculture.
EnerPure Inc.
ERA Funding: $6,200,000 | Project Total Value: $30,600,000
Build a first-of-its-kind facility to recycle used motor oil into a low-sulphur, lower-carbon marine fuel.
FulcrumAir Inc.
ERA Funding: $1,500,000 | Project Total Value: $3,000,000
Deploy an all-electric, drone-hoisted robot to install power line spacers and bird diverters, replacing helicopter and bucket trucks and cutting associated emissions.
Nucleon Fuel
ERA Funding: $1,500,000 | Project Total Value: $3,300,000
Evaluate a proposed uranium conversion facility to process Canadian-mined uranium concentrate into uranium hexafluoride for nuclear fuel production.
Qube Technologies
ERA Funding: $2,550,000 | Project Total Value: $7,900,000
Enhance Qube Technologies’ continuous emissions monitoring platform to detect, quantify, and reduce methane and greenhouse gas emissions across industrial sites.
ERA funding recipients are required to publicly report project outcomes, including emissions reductions, job creation, environmental and economic benefits, and key lessons learned. Final outcomes reports are shared publicly to help advance technologies toward commercialization and inform future innovation efforts.

ABOUT EMISSIONS REDUCTION ALBERTA (ERA):
For 17 years, ERA has invested revenues from the industrial carbon price paid by large emitters to accelerate the development and adoption of innovative clean technology solutions. Since its establishment in 2009, ERA has committed $1.22 billion toward 368 projects valued at over $11.53 billion. These investments are helping reduce emissions, create competitive industries, and support new business opportunities in Alberta. ERA-funded projects are estimated to deliver cumulative reductions of 28.1 million tonnes of CO2e by 2030 and 83.4 million tonnes by 2050.
