Sparks Eggs Eliminates Waste from the Sorting and Packaging Process

By creating valuable pet food and animal feed from commercially unsalable egg products, Calgary’s Sparks Eggs is doing something never done in Canada. This first-of-kind project diverts approximately 500 tonnes of egg annually away from the waste management system, helps reduce related greenhouse gas emissions, and creates a valuable product from what was once considered refuse. ERA invested $500,000 in the project through the Circular Economy Challenge. This project directly advances the circular economy in Alberta’s agriculture industry by significantly reducing waste in the food system by repurposing it for alternative use.
