City of Edmonton and Strathcona County trial hydrogen buses

The City of Edmonton is exploring new sustainable transportation technology by purchasing and testing new bus technology, powered by hydrogen, through the Alberta Zero Emission Hydrogen Transit (AZEHT) initiative. This initiative involves testing two hydrogen buses in real world conditions in Alberta; one hydrogen bus has been added to the Edmonton Transit Service fleet and one has been added to the Strathcona County fleet. Both buses are now in service. ERA committed $4.6 million to the near $10 million project.

Assuming a positive experience, this initiative will increase demand for H2 and support the deployment of economically viable fueling stations and distribution systems in the province. This is necessary in a transition to a hydrogen economy that will achieve emission reductions, economic growth, and job creation.
