This project proposed a process to recover lime waste from the Lantic Inc Sugar Beet Factory and upcycle it into precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC), to reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted through the energy-intensive traditional process of removing and refining lime. Funded through ERA’s Circular Economy Challenge and announced in 2023, the PPC from the lime has applications in fertilizer and wastewater treatment, offering further emission reductions from other industries that use the traditional lime recovery process. The funding relationship was ultimately cancelled in 2024
