About this Opportunity

ERA is supported by a managed information technology service provider (MSP) that provides day-to-day helpdesk services. In addition, the MSP works closely with ERA to develop an IT roadmap that meets ERA’s business needs and carries out requested IT projects for ERA.

The part-time IT Consultant will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) on the IT function and work closely with the ERA team and the MSP to ensure ERA’s IT environment is secure. The IT consultant will play a key role in overseeing the IT operations and risks at ERA, improving the organization’s internal IT controls, liaising with ERA’s MSP, and facilitating ERA’s annual external audit.

To excel in this role, the successful candidate must have expertise on IT knowledge and can provide thorough analysis and provide recommendations on IT related matters. The candidate should be solution oriented with a strong drive for delivering results. The candidate will have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work independently, and be committed to operational excellence.

Key Accountabilities
  • Oversee the IT function and work with the COO and MSP to develop and deliver ERA’s IT Strategy Roadmap.
  • Responsibility to review and update ERA’s existing IT policies and procedures. Develop and maintain an ongoing understanding of IT best practices. Identify gaps in the organization’s current IT environment and provide recommendations to strengthen internal controls and improve cyber security.
  • Track and implement all recommendations previously identified from external service providers related to the integrity of ERA’s IT environment.
  • Check in with ERA’s MSP on a monthly basis to ensure the operations of the IT function are effective and efficient. Report to the COO on any issues identified, recommend and implement solutions.
  • Liaise with the MSP on project initiatives and coordinate with the MSP to execute solutions.
  • Facilitate the annual external IT audit and action on audit findings for continuous improvement.
  • Draft quarterly briefing notes for the COO and board regarding updates on ERA’s IT matters.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A bachelor’s degree in a technology-related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in systems administration, cybersecurity (Azure, Microsoft 365), developing and delivering on an overall corporate IT strategy, and IT policy development
  • 2+ years’ experience in project management
  • Azure certification is considered an asset
  • Cybersecurity certifications are considered an asset

  • Exceptional knowledge of information technology, including cybersecurity, IT controls, IT best practices and IT policy development
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 cloud service (e.g., SharePoint, Teams, Exchange, Endpoint, etc.)
  • Knowledge in networking
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage projects
  • Strong systems thinking and creative problem solving
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
Compensation and Location

ERA offers competitive compensation. The compensation for this position will be determined based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. This is a part-time contract position estimated to be 20-40 hours per month. The successful candidate has a flexibility to work remotely.
