ERA received 46 Expressions of Interest for the $50 million ERA Oil Sands Innovation Challenge that closed on September 7. ERA launched the funding opportunity in July to seek out innovative technologies that reduce GHG emissions and improve the cost competitiveness of bitumen production and processing.
The Challenge focuses on demonstration projects that involve prototype testing, field piloting, commercial demonstration, or first-of-kind technology deployment. Applicants are required to engage an Alberta oil sands operator or lease holder as the project lead, or as a significant partner.
A team of experts will evaluate the submissions and ERA will shortlist projects and invite Full Project Proposals before the end of October. The ERA Board makes final funding decisions in early 2018.
