Positions on the ERA Board provide an opportunity to influence important work in the energy and climate space, to serve with capable and committed Board colleagues, and to engage with a very strong management team. The ERA Board presents a unique opportunity for both personal and professional development.

Emissions Reduction Alberta is committed to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive Board. We welcome and look forward to interest in this position from all qualified persons.

Dave Collyer, Board Chair, Emissions Reduction Alberta

Originally established as the Climate Change and Emissions Management (CCEMC) Corporation, the organization rebranded to Emissions Reduction Alberta in 2016. Since its establishment in 2009, ERA has committed over $820 million to over 230 innovative projects. ERA’s portfolio represents a total project value of approximately $6.5 billion and includes investments in projects in areas such as oil sands extraction, electricity, industrial processes and products, agriculture and biotechnology, and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).

ERA is now searching for a minimum of one, and possibly two Board Directors to join the organization. The Board of Directors provides oversight and guidance to management in the development of ERA’s overall strategic direction to achieve its goals and objectives. The Board provides effective strategic direction to establish business plans along with programs, measurement and monitoring systems to evaluate the success of the strategies and projects. The Board ensures that the organization is operating in accordance with its obligations under statute, its accountability mechanisms, and its approved Business Plans. In addition, the Board is responsible for Board and CEO succession strategies. The Chief Executive Officer and management carry out the day-to-day activities of ERA and are accountable to the Board for the achievement of ERA’s Business Plans. The Board also plays a role in supporting the organization by building strong relationships with members and stakeholders, including the Minister and government departments to which it is accountable. The ultimate objective for Directors is to maximize the value of the work of ERA.

As the successful candidate, you will have extensive leadership experience in industries/sectors relevant  to the ERA Mandate and knowledge of the key sectors of the Alberta economy in terms of greenhouse gas emissions and economic opportunity. The preferred candidate will be a resident of Alberta and will have deep understanding of the external (political, economic, social) context in Alberta and Canada.
