This project plans to demonstrate a robotic automation system for drilling operations. The technology integrates advanced robotic arms and automated pipe-handling technologies onto a compact drilling rig platform. The modular system performs key tasks, including pipe movement, connection support, and stand handling, without requiring workers to enter high-risk zones, which have some of the highest accident rates. By improving consistency and reducing manual touchpoints, the technology enhances safety, lowers operational variability, and increases drilling efficiency. Through this first-of-kind field deployment on an Alberta rig, Precision Drilling will validate performance, reliability, and readiness for broader adoption across the drilling industry.
