Reliable power is becoming increasingly important in Alberta’s evolving power market. Heartland Generation Ltd. will evaluate the feasibility of converting its natural gas-fired Battle River Generating Station to hydrogen, producing electricity with zero emissions, and strengthening Alberta’s power grid.

The study will work with vendors to push the performance envelope of clean fuel technology, set new carbon capture standards, and design how to best integrate different technologies for power generation. The concept being investigated by this study would move Alberta to the forefront of power system decarbonization and potentially play a key part in Canada’s future clean power requirements, while making a significant investment in the Alberta’s energy sector.
