Azolla is advancing a methanol‑to‑hydrogen fueling system aimed at enabling 700 bar (approximately 10,000 pounds per square inch) hydrogen dispensing, which is critical for light‑duty fuel‑cell vehicles. The new high-pressure dispensing system will provide municipal and private fleets with reliable 700-bar fueling at costs below $12 per kilogram — removing a major barrier to adoption for early hydrogen vehicle users. Building on the performance and learnings from the ERA-funded Edmonton site, Azolla will also introduce a Rapid Deployment Station (RDS) in Calgary with onsite hydrogen storage capable of delivering up to 300 kilograms every day at a total dispensed cost under $20 per kilogram. The upgraded trailer will be located at this existing site where the produced hydrogen will be compressed, stored, and chilled, with dispensing integrated on the trailer targeting both 350 bar and 700 bar delivery. By combining permanent high-performance infrastructure with a low CAPEX, rapidly deployable solution, the project directly addresses three major barriers to hydrogen adoption: limited refuelling coverage between Calgary and Edmonton, high capital requirements for traditional stations, and high operating costs for 700 bar dispensing. By 2029, this network aims to enable uptake of approximately 10 long-haul Class 8 fuel cell trucks, 4 extended-range transit or coach buses, and 50 light-duty fleet or public vehicles. The project will reduce emissions by an estimated 1,429 tonnes of emissions per year, with successful market adoption offering the potential to avoid up to 44.95 million tonnes of emissions in Alberta by 2050.
