The Town of Drayton Valley aimed to convert municipal solid waste (MSW) into Processed Engineered Fuel (PEF) pellets using first-of-its-kind technology in Canada. Funded through Round 7: Shovel Ready, the PEF pellets produced during the project were planned to burn in coal power to create renewable energy and reduce greenhouse gases (GHG). The funding relationship was ultimately cancelled.
