The Brazeau Hydro Hybridization project is a first-of-kind project that aims to augment the existing Brazeau Hydroelectric Facility by integrating advanced lithium-ion battery energy storage systems (BESS) with its hydroelectric generators. Brazeau is the largest clean, dispatchable generating facility in Alberta, and this technology can improve water-use efficiency, reduce GHG emissions, and enhance the overall reliability and stability of Alberta’s electricity grid. The project plans to demonstrate the technical and commercial capability for hybridized hydrogeneration to provide essential grid services.
