$53.5 million committed to 21 projects
The ERA 2016/17 Annual Report is now online. It outlines our success for 2016/17 and profiles the 21 new projects that received $53.5 million in funding. The projects combine to reduce cumulative GHG emissions by more than one megatonne by 2020 and eight megatonnes by 2030.
Board Chair, Kathy Sendall emphasizes that collaboration remains critical to ERA’s progress.
“Our success relies on our ability to build the right connections with the right people at the right time. ERA has been a ground breaker in this area. We are working closely with government, industry and innovators to accelerate the development of promising new technologies sought by the market — to secure new jobs, industries, and technologies for a diversified Alberta economy.”
Our funding commitments for the 2016/17 fiscal year include:
- $29.5 million for 12 methane emissions monitoring, detection and reduction technologies
- $12 million for transformative technologies advancing through the second round of the ERA Grand Challenge: Innovative Carbon Uses
- $12 million for projects from Small and Medium Enterprises that we are advancing in partnership with Sustainable Development Technology Canada.
With these additions, we have committed a total of $324 million to 121 projects that are valued at more than $2 billion.
“ERA will continue to seek out solutions that will accelerate clean technology development,” said ERA CEO, Steve MacDonald. “Right now, we’re working with our partners and stakeholders on the design and launch of our next funding opportunity.”
Analysis from the Alberta Ministry of Economic Development and Trade confirms that ERA projects will add almost $1.8 billion to Alberta’s GDP from 2011 to 2021, and $2.3 billion to the Canadian economy as a whole. Taken together, our projects support an average of 1,400 jobs in Alberta annually from 2011 to 2020.
