Rodatherm Energy Ltd. is developing a closed-loop geothermal power system that uses a non-corrosive working fluid rather than water. The closed-loop system allows the working fluid to extract heat from underground without direct contact or contamination, potentially lowering operating costs and improving power efficiency. Fully enclosed and pressurized, the system is designed to deliver zero-emission, baseload electricity at a competitive cost. Leveraging existing oil and gas drilling technologies and industrial processes, the Rodatherm Geothermal Demonstration Project plans to validate its novel system under real-world conditions at an existing test site in Utah, de-risking future commercial deployment in Alberta and internationally. The project will be led by Rodatherm’s Calgary office, with support from numerous Alberta-based companies and vendors.
