Imperial’s Enhanced Thickened Tailings (eTT) process introduces a major improvement in tailings management by combining advanced chemistry with optimized treatment. Using a three-step approach—flocculation, colloidal silica binding, and coagulation—eTT promotes rapid agglomeration of fine particles, reducing tailings volumes, improving water recovery, and accelerating consolidation. This innovation can lower costs, enhance storage efficiency, and has the potential to enable earlier land reclamation at oil sands mines using thickener systems.
