The Lacombe Biorefinery project was designed to produce high-grade organic fertilizer and renewable natural gas (RNG) from animal by-products and carcasses. Funded through ERA’s Continuous Intake Program and announced in 2020, the project planned a full-scale commercial operation, diverting organic waste emissions from landfill, onsite burial and onsite manure lagoons, all of which release harmful methane emissions. The funding relationship was ultimately cancelled in 2023.
