Suncor’s Alberta Vanadium Project (AVP) seeks to develop and construct Canada’s first commercial vanadium recovery facility. Separated into two phases, the focus of Phase 1 is to demonstrate the economic recovery of vanadium from fly ash produced in industrial operations, including the oil sands in Alberta. Vanadium produces the electrolyte used in flow batteries, making it a valuable and important element for applications, including the energy storage market. Upon successful completion of Phase 1, Phase 2 will focus on the construction of a commercial vanadium recovery plant.
